Lancet

Gothic tracery in lace mohair: a semicircle shawl crocheted from the neck edge outwards like a rose window, and a long scarf whose windows stand upright when it hangs. Every window is a diagonal lattice of chains with a pair of picots on each bar, framed in solid trebles that close into true pointed arches.

About this pattern

A lancet window is the tall, narrow window with a sharply pointed arch of the early Gothic cathedrals. It is named after the lancet, a slim pointed blade, because the top of the window has the same shape.

The shawl starts with a magic ring in the middle of the neck edge and grows outwards in rows worked back and forth: a rose of open rings, a ring of 4 lancet windows, a gallery, a ring of 8 windows and a crown of 32 gables with picots.

The scarf is worked in two identical halves from a chain in the middle, so both ends finish with the same crown. Its windows are worked tip first, so they stand upright when the scarf hangs from your neck.

What's inside

  • 2 PDFs, in English (US terms) and in Polish, each with the shawl and the scarf
  • Every row written out, with stitch counts: 48 rows for the shawl, 61 for each half of the scarf
  • 8 symbol charts: the rose and its middle drawn larger, both rings of windows, the crown, the whole width of the scarf and the lattice swatch
  • A lattice swatch: one window with both frames, written out and charted, so you can check your chains before you start
  • Techniques explained: the lattice step by step, fans and clusters, the teeth along the frames, shared stitches and picot pairs
  • A schematic and a yarn estimate for each piece
  • The row-by-row companion: every row of the swatch, the shawl and the scarf, part by part, in English or Polish (unlock code inside the PDF)

Sizes

Both pieces are one size. The measurements are after wet blocking, and the lattice and the windows depend on your gauge, so make the treble swatch and the lattice swatch first. Yarn amounts are estimates for a lace mohair-silk of about 210 m per 25 g.

Questions

What does beta mean?

Lancet has been checked stitch by stitch in software: the written rows, the charts and the pictures all come from one model, and every written row has been replayed against it. No sample has been crocheted yet. Make both swatches first. If anything doesn't add up, write to [email protected]. When the tested version is ready, Payhip sends it to you for free.

Is there help while I crochet?

Yes. The row-by-row companion takes you through every row of the swatch, the shawl and the scarf, part by part, in English or Polish. You unlock it with the code printed in the PDF.

Is this a finished shawl or scarf?

No. This is a digital PDF pattern for you to crochet yourself. Nothing is posted to you.

How do I get the pattern?

Right after payment you can download the PDFs, and Payhip also emails you a download link. The email comes from Payhip, so check your spam folder if you don't see it.

Can I get a refund?

The pattern is delivered instantly, so the right of withdrawal ends once the download is available. If a file is faulty or doesn't match its description, we will send a corrected file or refund you. See the terms of sale.

Can I sell what I make?

Yes, you can sell shawls and scarves you crochet by hand from this pattern. Please don't share or resell the PDF itself.
